2013 Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir

John Peterson became a partner of August West in 2013, but had been supplying grapes to us for our Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir since 2011. In the summer of 2013, we decided that since John was now a partner, we should make a vineyard designate Pinot from his vineyard. We started with three barrels of his 2012 for our first Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir, and this 2013 is the second.
The abundant and high quality crop of 2013 Pinot Noir provided us with three of the five clones that John grows at Peterson Vineyard, Pommard, 667 and 777. The Pommard and 777 give most of the structure to the wine, with fine tannin and acidity, while the 667 shows off its aromatic and spicy fruit profile. We expect the 2013 Peterson Pinot Noir to evolve well for the next 8 to 10 years, maturing fully by 2022.
