2015 Graham Family Vineyard Pinot Noir

2015 was the smallest crop we’ve seen at Graham since the 2011 vintage, but the same could be said for most Pinot Noir vineyards in California.  We got used to tiny crops at Howard Graham’s property during most of its first eight years of production, then the site was blessed with 3 large crops in a row, ’12 through ’14.  The ’15 yield was back just over two tons per acre, but the grapes were perfectly ripe and well-balanced.  We brought in clones 667, 777, 828 and 23 for August West in 2015.  The final blend is mostly 23 and 777.

 

The 2015 Graham Family Vineyard Pinot Noir is the only wine in our lineup from ‘15 that needs plenty of cellar time to show what it has to offer.  The subtle nose of plums and earth precedes a palate which displays a soft fruitiness and firm tannins.  Give this until 2018 to start to open and hold onto it through 2027 at least.
