2016 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir

The 2016 August West Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir comes from two vineyards along River Road between Gonzales and Soledad, Peterson and Tondre.  Peterson is owned by August West partner, John Peterson, and it's farmed by Ruben Balderas.  Tondre is owned and farmed by Joe and Penny Alarid.  The two sites are less than three miles apart, but the styles of the Pinots which come from each place are very different. 

The Peterson Vineyard adds its very fragrant and spicy Pinot aromas to the wine with a delicate and supple texture.  Tondre provides the density and backbone to the blend, with darker and riper fruits in its aromas.  Together they express the best aspects of the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation. 

2016 was a very typical year in the SLH with harvest lasting almost the entire month of September.  2013, 2014 and 2015 came in much earlier, with the picking beginning in August.  Enjoy the 2016 August West SLH Pinot from early 2018 through 2025.
