Our first ever Sierra Mar Chardonnay comes from high above the Salinas Valley, in the Santa Lucia Highlands.  Gary Franscioni planted Sierra Mar starting in 2007 to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Viognier and Syrah.  We get 1.5 tons of Robert Young clone Chardonnay from Sierra Mar.  Derived from Wente Chardonnay, the Robert Young clone was also given the number Clone 17 from UC Davis.

2013 was an excellent growing year in the Santa Lucia Highlands, even though it was the beginning of a severe drought throughout California.  The perfect spring weather allowed a large crop to form on the vines, and it ripened slowly during the cool summer that followed.  We harvested in mid September, the wine barrel fermented in neutral oak and was dry by the beginning of October.

Our 2013 Sierra Mar Chardonnay will be drinking well by early 2015 and should develop well for the next few years.
