2009 Russian River Valley Chardonnay
The 2009 August West Russian River Valley Chardonnay is our first release of this wine. It comes entirely from a hillside vineyard called Treehouse on Stoetz Road between Occidental and Forestville. Treehouse was planted by Charlie Chenoweth and August West partner Howard Graham in 2006. This was our first crop off the vineyard, and we received only 1 ton of Chardonnay.
With only 2 barrels of '09 RRV Chardonnay to work with, we decided go with 2 once used barrels, so we could let the fruit shine through on the wine. Bottled in February 2011, we aged the '09 RRV Chardonnay for 16 months at our winery in San Francisco. In order to let the wine open up to its fullest, we recommend decanting for at least 30 minutes before serving. The subtle yet gorgeous fruit profile of the vineyard comes alive the longer the wine is allowed to sit in the glass. It should reach its peak between 2012 and 2013.
