Our 2009 Rosella's Vineyard Chardonnay is comprised entirely of Dijon Clone 76.  The 1.4 tons yielded from the '09 harvest produced 3 barrels for us, out of which we bottled 72 cases in November 2010.  Of the 3 barrels, 2 were neutral French oak, and 1 was a new Cadus cooperage barrel.  Cadus is one of the most subtle barrels available, so the oak impact in the wine is very well-integrated.

The '09 Rosella's Chardonnay appears at this stage to be headed for a long, slow development in the bottle.  As opposed to the first 4 vintages we produced of Rosella's Chard, since 2005, this 2009 Rosella's is quite closed in the nose and requires several hours of decanting to begin to reveal its origins.  The fragrant Santa Lucia Highlands bouquet of tropical and citrus fruits emerges in the glass and also shows a well-balanced palate with plenty of acidity for aging.  We predict this '09 Rosella's Chardonnay will reach its peak sometime after 2014.
