Our final vintage of Russian River Valley Syrah comes from the Treehouse Vineyard high above the Green Valley sub appellation of the Russian River Valley.  Planted in 2006 by Charlie Chenoweth and Howard Graham, we made Syrahs from here only in 2009 and 2010 before it was decided more Pinot Noir was needed, so these vines were budded over to Pinot Noir in 2011.  The selections of Syrah that make up this wine are the Alban and the Bien Nacido.

2010 was a cool year for Pinot Noir, until late August, but Syrah seems to pay very little attention to weather in coastal California and always gets ripe in late October.  We harvested the Treehouse Syrah on October 21.  Because of the whole cluster fermentation technique we use on Syrah, the 2010 August West Russian River Valley Syrah will need a few years in the bottle to soften, so lay it down at least until 2016.  If you want to try it sooner, we recommend a long decanting with lots of glass swirling for extra aeration.  It should drink well right through the '20s.
