The 2013 August West Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is once again a 50/50 blend of Graham Family Vineyard and Keefer Ranch, two sites within a mile of each other in the Green Valley sub appellation of the Russian River.  We get Mariafeld, or clone 23, from both vineyards, and this makes up a good part of the wine.  The other clones from Graham include 667, 777 and 828.  We also tried the Swan selection from Keefer for the first time.

2013 yielded a large, ripe crop in all of coastal California, similar to 2012 in some ways, in terms of tons per acre.  However, it was a dryer, warmer year than 2012, and the fruit matured more quickly on the vines leading to a relatively early harvest.  There is great concentration and complexity in the 2013 August West RRV Pinot.  It's already drinking well at such an early age, and should continue to do so through at least 2022.
