2015 will go down in California Pinot Noir history as one of the earliest harvests ever.  The warm and dry winter got the vines off to a rapid start in February.  By the time flowering came around in May, the weather had turned cold and cloudy.  It was actually the coldest May in over 130 years.  This created an unfriendly environment for pollination, and we ended up with an exceptionally small crop throughout California on Pinot.  Other grape varieties, which flower later in the season, did not suffer the same fate, including Chardonnay.

The 2015 Peterson Vineyard Pinot Noir is our fourth wine we've made from John Peterson's River Road site.  The medium garnet color has a savory nose of roses, cola and Santa Lucia Highlands spice.  It's in fact very similar in aromas to Peterson's famous neighboring vineyards just to the north and the south.  There's great acidity on the palate, which is typical for Peterson, along with a mouth filling texture and very long finish.  Expect this to be at its most enjoyable from 2018 through 2025.
